Ways to help other peoples mental wellbeing

In life, it’s important you look after your own mental health, as mental health is extremely important. As well as this, it’s important you look after the people around you’s mental wellbeing – there is much that you can do to help others and improve their day moving forward.

Whether you are looking into how can I serve better as a Christian or are simply trying to work on yourself, one way in which you can do so is by supporting those around you. By offering practical help, you can make a difference to someone’s day and help their mental health, so will offering your time to sit down and talk to them as well as giving compliments when you can, you’ll be amazed at how much a compliment can make to someone’s day.

Below, we have put together a short guide on ways to help other people’s mental wellbeing.

Offering practical help

Helping others around you can really make a difference to their day. When we say helping, we mean giving them a short amount of your time to offer practical help. It could be as small as taking your neighbours’ recycling out on bin day, or helping an elderly lady carry her shopping to the car. Even asking to help them, but them saying no, could still make a difference to their day.

Sitting down and talking

Whether it’s a friend, family member or stranger, offering to sit down with them and talking can help. You can talk about any issues in their life right now that you can support them with, or you can talk about life in general, like what’s on TV, what they are watching on Netflix. We once went to a cafe that said it was the talking table, and it encouraged people to sit on this table if they wanted to chat, instead of being on their own. It was amazing seeing how many people sat at the table and spoke with each other, even though they were strangers.

Compliment people

Offering a compliment is a simple thing you can do, which can very quickly improve someone’s day. When walking down the street, try to compliment as many people (without looking strange) as you can. Tell a stranger that you like their outfit, or that their hair is nice today or that they smell nice. It doesn’t have to be in a weird way, but in an honest and passing way – just a quick compliment and then you can continue with your day. This may also help their spiritual health.

There are so many ways in which you can help support another’s mental wellbeing. We hope the suggestions above have inspired you and that you can apply them to your daily routine to help others. What tips would you suggest to help other people’s mental wellbeing? Which of the above recommendations did you find useful? Is there anything missing in our guide that you think we should be adding?
